Come and try a Duathlon with me??

Did you know that this week has been Women’s Sport Week 2016 which is all about getting more women and girls involved in sport and an opportunity to showcase female athletes who are at the top of their game. Most of all, it’s an opportunity for everyone to get involved and show their support for women’s sport.

imgresOn our Facebook Page earlier this week I posted my sporting heros, Yoga sensation Jessamyn Stanley, Plus Size Athlete Louise Green and Triathlete Leah Gilbert (pictured) to name a few.

The week is led by the charity Women in Sport along with major media partners, sport national governing bodies and sport organisations including Sport England and DCMS.

It is really important that we have campaigns like this that show that all kinds of women play sport.

Last month I took part in my first multisport event in more than ten years when I ran, biked and ran my way around 13 laps of the VelopPark in East London…and guess what?

I’m going back…and this time with a team.

As part of my ongoing partnership with British Triathlon I am attempting to get a team of 100 ladies from the Too Fat to Run community to come and give Duathlon a go with me.

On Saturday 13th November our tribe will congregate at the magnificent closed road circuit surrounding the 2012 Olympic velodrome in the Velopark, Stratford.

The purpose built circuit is 1mile in length and the event format of run-bike-run, starts with with a 2mile (2 lap) first run then a 10mile (10 lap) bike section before finishing with a 1mile (1 lap) final run.

Worried about speed…don’t be there will be athletes of all levels, including some women that will be doing run walk intervals.

The event is chip timed with medals for the places in 16-19years, 20-39years, 40-49years and 50+years age bands.

Registration starts at 9.45, and the race starts at 10.30

There are changing and showering facilities as well as cafes on site. Providing the backdrop to the event is the London Aquatic Centre (used for the 2012 Olympic swimming events), the 2012 athletics Stadium and the ArcelorMittal Orbit and the vast Westfield shopping centre.

We have a team of 10 ladies already signed up from The Clubhouse joining me, and British Triathlon are offering £5 discount to any of you who would like to take part by signing up here and using discount code “YOURGOTRI”
