Spread the love

So I’m back on the old fundraising crusade, in fact this is the biggest challenge yet. Not only am I having to train for a marathon (The London Marathon) but I am having to raise over £2000 for the privalige.

I often ask myself if I would bother at all with fundraising if it wasnt an absolute requirement, and I must admit for some of the smaller races I would most definately preffer to be able to opt out..but for something as massive as a marathon then its only right.

My charity this time round is Great Ormond Street…my nephew Rio had 2 operations there as a baby, and I have nothing but praise for the work they do there.

So today, with a sense of dread I have set up a justgiving site (well a virgin one this time), send round an email at work and put something up on facebook, and low and behold I have raised £160.

I am amazed at peoples generosity, but more than that I am touched that people that I only met for a brief amount of time, worked with in a previous life or have fallen out of contact with other the years…are the first to put their hands in their pockets.

I know I have a long way to go to meet my £2012 target but if todays progress is anything to go by, then maybe I won’t have to resort to walking the streets with a bucket in my hand or shaving my head!!!

I now actively avoid charities or events that require a minimum fundraising amount. Make me pay the true cost of participating and let me try to raise as much as I can, in the knowledge that it is all being used for the purpose that I am telling my sponsors

I watched the documentary about the London Marathon so I always knew the deal, this is a one off…my partner was a charity fundraiser for a while so I know the hypocricy of fundraising…but it is what it is, and I believe in the charity!!

I’ll support anyone who gets out and does something for the good of all, I just choose my events carefully! Well done for having the determination to do the marathon…I may just have a go myself next year, if I can get a place with the right people.

        You’ll have my support xx
