Do we know enough about what our Fat runners want?

Too often I find myself talking on behalf of overweight female runners like I am their unofficial spokesperson, ok granted it is an area I have been researching for the past 10 years,  spending upwards of 30 hours a week communicating with such individuals, and at least 3 hours a week writing about the issues that affect them but that still does not give me permission to think I am some kind of guru who knows it all.

As the Too Fat to Run campaign develops and builds momentum this has been playing more and more on my mind. I am being asked daily what the issues are by individuals and organisations that are at least interested in hearing what I have to say, and I have to be mega prepared for that day when I get my slot on TedTalks or a seat next to Oprah and my message goes global.

So after recently attending a weekend convention on public speaking that was all about honing your message and being clear about what you really want to say to the world, I feel the time has come to dig a little deeper with my current followers and really find out what it is we are all dealing with. This comes in the form of a 10 question survey that is going to help me identify some trends and further my thinking for next year.

2015 is just round the corner folks, and with every new year comes a new drive to lose weight, get fit, look great…and we at The Fat Girls Guide to Running need to be ready to jump into action and counteract all those “lose 10lbs in 10 days” magazine articles and “Act now if you want to look good for Spring” marketing campaigns from the diet industry.

So what is the plan?

Well that would be telling. I have a range of new things ready to go live in January but just to be sure that we are heading in the right direction there are 3 opportunities for you to get involved in this final planning stage, particularly if you are in the UK where much of next years activity will take place

1. Simply fill in this survey

2. Take part in a one-off “What are you gonna do different for 2015” Webinar to be held on Tuesday 2nd December. Further information about this will be sent out via email next month so make sure you are a subscriber to this blog.

3. Get involved in an exclusive Ambassador Google Hangout to review the plan.

Over the last few months many of you have offered help to build the Too Fat to Run brand, wanting to spread the message that you are never too fat to run and get involved in the campaign somehow, so in January we will be launching our pilot ambassador programme in 10 UK Areas and 5 International locations. So in light of this I am offering 2 separate Google Hangout Sessions to discuss the possibilities of how an Ambassador Programme could work, with one session for our UK followers and one for our Rest of the World followers as the issues are slightly different, but places will be limited to just 20 spaces at each hangout.

So if you have 2 years experience of running as a plus sized runner and feel like you could motivate and inspire other inactive and overweight women, then please fill in the form below so that you can be invited to the hangouts and considered for the first round of pilots. For more information about what is required of an Ambassador check this out.

We are on a crusade ladies and believe you me it is incredibly lonely doing that on your own so please get involved and do your bit to grow this awesome community of runners.
