Another start again Monday

So not only does today mark the start of another week, its also the start of a new month (well almost) so I had every intention of putting the crap of last week behind me…and believe you me there has been some crap – Biscuits, cakes, sweets, crisps, chips, ice creams and a whole heap of alcohol too. But as I said today is Monday…a new day, a new week, in a new month.

So I started this new day with a banana and some yoga.

And then my fiance trying to be helpful made me a fried egg and bacon sandwich. So not helpful. But it was 11.45 by this point and I figured that this would do me for lunch. So no real harm done.

Just after midday and a strawberry yogurt a package arrived – my race pack for Sundays RuntotheBeat Half Marathon. I knew it was coming, but there is nothing like a slightly too small technical tee and a timing chip to bring it home.

I have done no running in over a week and I could really feel it. Not only in my body but in myself. I have become lazy and lethargic, grumpy and irritable. When Rose slept today rather than take the opportunity to catch up on emails or do some washing I slept too, and when I woke up I felt like crap. So I reached for the biscuit tin. Where has all of my drive gone, and my self control and my get up and go? They had all quite clearly got up and gone!

I figured there was only one thing for it I would drag myself out of this negative state of mind and go to track night for a bit of a speed session with my running club.

So I got ready, arranged childcare, grabbed my car keys and set off. An hour and 15 minutes later I was still less than 3 miles from my house sitting in the most frustrating of traffic jams. I gave up and went to my mums for a catch up instead.

Came home a few hours later to a dinner of chicken curry and rice and apple pie and custard….but wait…I said no to the apple pie and custard (bet you didn’t see that coming) and had some frozen berries and natural yogurt for dessert instead.

It hasn’t been the best of Mondays but then again it hasn’t been the worst…this time last week I was enjoying myself at Notting Hill Carnival without a care in the world and next Monday I will be licking my wounds after another half marathon sub 2.30 attempt. Probably with a few missing toenails for good measure.

For anyone else tackling Runtothebeat on Sunday have a look for me in the black pen…I must have said I could run the race between 2 hours and 2 hours 30 minutes… if only hey? I will be lucky if I can do it in 3 hours, and they reopen the roads after 3 hours 30. Oh the shame!!
