It is great to see you all getting along so well in The Clubhouse forum, providing support, encouragement and often really good advice to each other. My ambition for this membership scheme was always that you would make friends and be inspired by each other, so this makes me very happy.
As part of our member spotlight feature I would like to introduce you to Bettina Franke-Maass who resides in Hannover in Germany, and who tells us she is about to smash a sub 40 5k in an upcoming race.
When did you start running and why? I started 10 years ago, liked it a lot, got pregnant and well had no time/motivation/energy to restart.
I suffered from a burn out last year and found some exercise helpful to run out of my depression. I started with Nordic Walking in November, my back and strength got better and now I’m back into running!
What motivated you to join The Clubhouse? German running clubs are like british ones….as a beginner you’re lost and as an overweight beginner you’re more than lost!
It’s different with the clubhouse, here nobody brags with paces and fancy race results but the girls are talking about the real life: how to find time and motivation for runs, obstacles in their ways and are celebrating our little victories in running!
And of course: Being a part of an international community of rounded, running ladies feels great!
Where are you at the moment on our coloured ability scale? I’m a pink JOGGER
What do you hope to get from being part of this running club? Tips, Ideas, Community, lots of contacts!
How often do you run? 3 times are mandatory at the moment because of Jantastic! If I’m lucky I can run a fourth time on the weekend!
What kind of distances do you run in training? My baseline is a 4k, my long run is 6.5k
Have you taken part in any races? Please tell us about them, and also any races you would like to do in the future. No races so far, I’m running 5k at the Hannover Airportrun in March and signed in for a charity 5k in May. Love to have a race in the UK, maybe I can fly over later in the year
What is your running goal for this year? Running my first 5k with dignity (and under 40min) and running 10k later that year
How can other members best support or encourage you? All the other girls are so honest about their little difficulties and obstacles and lack of motivations so I can see myself in them! Some other members are real role models (and of course Julie!) and have great Ideas and Tips. love that!
What is the one thing which you think would improve your running? Love to join a training session live with Julie….Solving my foot issue – still have hurting feet after a few kilometers…. Losing a stone would also be great too.
I love Bettinas positive attitude, and I also enjoy seeing her pictures of where she runs…I am also ultra impressed with her fab english and feel pretty embarrassed about my non existent German speaking ability.
